Accessibility features
The website includes the following accessibility considerations:
- The website can be navigated using a keyboard.
- The website has been tested using the NVDA screen reader.
- Text is sized using relative units and respects the user's browser font-size settings.
- Both light and dark modes use colors with appropriate contrast.
- Images include alternative text where appropriate.
- The website respects the user's reduced-motion preference.
- Smooth scrolling is disabled when reduced motion is preferred.
- Page-transition animations are disabled when reduced motion is preferred.
- The navigation indicator animation is disabled when reduced motion is preferred.
- Page-transition animations include a fallback for situations where the animation code is delayed or does not load. If the animation does not start within a short period, the styles that visually hide the content are removed so that content is not unnecessarily delayed, particularly on slower connections.
Accessibility considerations
Testing the website with NVDA does not guarantee that it will work equally well with every screen reader. The website has also been tested using a range of other accessibility and browser tools, and testing with NVDA did not reveal any major accessibility issues. Based on this testing, the website is expected to work with other screen readers as well, but compatibility cannot be guaranteed across every combination of screen reader, browser, operating system, and device.
If you encounter an issue with a screen reader or other accessibility technology, please get in touch and include the screen reader or technology you were using and, if possible, what went wrong. This helps identify and address issues that may not have been found during testing.
Interactive controls should generally have sufficient size and spacing to be comfortably used on touchscreens. The controls below the featured-project screenshots may not always meet that ideal on smaller screens.
These controls are primarily intended as indicators of which screenshot is currently visible and how many screenshots are available. The screenshots can also be viewed by horizontally scrolling, which is the intended interaction on mobile devices.
The screenshots themselves are supplementary content rather than essential information. At least one screenshot is visible without interaction, additional screenshots provide further views of the project, and the project is linked directly as well. For these reasons, the current design intentionally keeps the controls compact rather than making them larger at the expense of the surrounding design.
This is a conscious design decision rather than an unfamiliarity with touch-target accessibility considerations, and it may be revisited in the future.
Language
The website is currently available in English only. This may change in the future as Pelneth learns more about its visitors and the languages that would be most useful to them.
